Small Wonders brings a series of mythical flowers to life through stop-motion short films created in collaboration with animator Katy Beveridge.
Inspired by early nature documentarian Frank Percy Smith (1880–1944)—a pioneer in time-lapse and micro-cinematography—Small Wonders references his iconic work The Birth Of A Flower (1910), in which time-lapse photography reveals flowers unfolding their petals toward the light.
The design of these imagined flowers was informed by exploring botanical encylopedias and illustrations. The animation process then served as a means of discovery, allowing the movement to define each flower’s unique characteristics, actions, and bloom.
